Welcome to Cambria Dallas Downtown!

Now Open!

Cambria Dallas Downtown offers a culturally rich experience through design, art, history, and modernization like no other hotel. Our hotel is an adaptive reuse of Dallas’s landmark Tower Petroleum Building in the Harwood Historic District, at the corner of Elm Street and St. Paul Street, formerly the Tower Theater and known for popular cinema and happenings in downtown Dallas.

With modern amenities tastefully integrated into the Tower Petroleum Building's phenomenal Art Deco style, our truly unique downtown Dallas hotel creates a boutique travel experience unlike anywhere else in in the city.

Classic Art Deco Architecture

This boutique hotel repurposed original terrazzo tile, rose granite stonework, Ashford black marble, and authentic brass elevator doors to preserve the craftsmanship and authenticity of the hotel. Reflecting the Art Deco era of 1930’s, the hotel boasts open public spaces with geometric patterns and furnishings, a large bar and lounge with chef’s table, booths, and nestled seating for easy conversation.

Cool teal and chocolate wall colors offer flavor in the lobby, welcoming guests to experience a sense of space filled with heritage and infused with today’s modern technologies and plush appointments. At every turn, you'll find immaculately restored design accents, grand style and craftsmanship, and an admiration for the building's phenomenal Art Deco style.

History of the Tower Petroleum Building

Tower Petroleum Building Hotel

The brand-new Cambria Dallas Downtown may be re-inventing the hotel experience for the modern traveler, but our roots date back to the 1930's. Located in the iconic Tower Petroleum Building, we embrace our building's history and embodies the spirit of Downtown Dallas.

In 1931, the 23-story Art Deco skyscraper opened in downtown Dallas, making waves as the city's most marvelous, modern office building. With its iconic zig-zag styling and intricate facade, the Tower Petroleum Building immediately became a hallmark of the Dallas skyline.

About the Architect

The Tower Petroleum Building was designed by famed Texan Mark Lemmon, who had spent years traveling the country, designing legendary hotels like The Commodore in New York City and The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Upon return home to Texas in 1921, Lemmon contributed to the architecture of some of the state's most recognizable buildings, including the Natural History and the Hall of State, buildings on the campus of Southern Methodist University, Highland Park Presbyterian Church, the Cotton Bowl, and the fabled Cokesbury Bookstore, which hosted book signings by F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Steinbeck, William Faulkner, and Howard Cosell.

A Rich History

In the first two decades of its life, the Tower Petroleum Building also acted as the central hub for the Dallas Theatre Row and the city's arts community. During the 1930's and 1940's people traveled across Texas to catch a show at the property's Tower Theater, which was just behind the Tower Petroleum Building, to see some of Dallas's most exciting and majestic productions. In 1951, the Tower Theatre drew the curtain for the final time, and the Corrigan Tower replaced the beloved Tower Theater.

The building's 12th floor was also home to the FBI from 1937 to 1943.
