Dallas is a huge city - the fourth-largest in the U.S. It’s true that everything is bigger in Texas, but this begs the question: where should you stay? You know you might not be able to see it all, so it’s essential to prioritize. What makes Deep Ellum the ideal landing place for your Dallas tour?

For one, it’s the heart of the live music scene in Dallas. Whether you love smooth jazz or energized rock and roll, you won’t find more live music options anywhere else.

It’s the heart of culinary exploration as well. With restaurants representing every cuisine, there’s variety and there’s ingenuity you’ll remember long after you leave.

There’s street art. There’s architecture. There’s a vibrant community. What else could you ask for from a trip to Dallas?

Live Music

The Bomb Factory is a must-visit: it’s the old site of one of Henry Ford’s first automobile manufacturing sites. After years of commercial use, it opened its doors in 1993 as a music venue and immediately became known for hosting acts like The Ramones and Sonic Youth. After closing in 1997, The Bomb Factory reopened in 2015 following a full renovation. You’ll see acts like The Lumineers, Robert Plant and Ms. Lauryn Hill. Don’t miss a show while you’re in town!

If you’re an art lover, be sure to visit The Kettle Art Gallery. It’s known as the unofficial cultural center of Deep Ellum since its opening in 2005. Their mission is to show the work of local and emerging artists and the gallery is run by and for artists. It’s a venue committed to the grassroots work of prioritizing the importance of art in community and if this aligns with your values, you need to visit.

Where to Eat

Pecan Lodge

You might need to structure your day around this visit, but eating at Pecan Lodge is worth the wait. Mouthwatering barbecue smoked in a pit has visitors lining up around the block early to grab their plate. We’re not joking about early. Unless you want to stand in the hot sun, get there before it opens. Even then, you still might have to wait your turn. Word has gotten out that Pecan Lodge is the ideal place to eat true Texas barbecue, and we second that notion. It would be a shame to travel to Dallas and leave without this life-changing dining experience!

Select Start

If barbecue isn’t your style, don’t worry - you don’t have to eat barbecue when you come to Texas. Select Start (previously known as The Phamacy) offers shakes, floats, and malts in a 50's era drugstore soda fountain. Every shake at Select Start has the option to be made into a Buzzshake, featuring an alcoholic twist!

Serious Pizza

They say "everything is bigger in Texas" and that includes the slices you'll find at Serious Pizza. With Texas-sized pizza slices and a variety of savory toppings at your fingertips and eclectic décor that captures the spirit of Deep Ellum, you are in for a treat during your next visit.

Uncle Uber's

Treat yourself to the best burger in Dallas according to D Magazine at Uncle Uber's! Sink your teeth into a wide variety of sandwiches, expertly prepared with carefully chosen pairings of meat, veggies, cheese, and bread and sip on a locally brewed craft beer.
